Our vision
Unlock the potential of offshore wind energy to support the required decarbonization of maritime transport.
Low-cost, low-carbon energy sources for maritime transport require massive investment in new technologies research and development, except for wind. Wind ship propulsion is one of the key technologies for decarbonizing maritime transport, along with alternative fuels.
That’s why we created FARWIND ENERGY, the pioneering company for decarbonization solutions in the maritime sector.
We are working to decarbonize the shipping industry by offering
- some of the most efficient vessel propulsion solutions on the market, and
- energy ships to produce alternative fuels.
Our values
We rely on science.
Individuals, in all their diversity, are at the heart of our company’s success.
Anchored in the real world, we are committed to our customers and to putting our innovations at the service of the necessary ene
A mission-driven company
We are a company with a mission: to act for the climate.
This mission is anchored in our mindset and engraved in the company by-laws.
We work to help our customers achieve carbon neutrality.
In addition to the company’s carbon footprint and its impact on its customers’ carbon emissions, Farwind Energy is also active in disseminating information to the general public.
History
As a spin-off from the École Centrale de Nantes, FARWIND ENERGY can rely on its world-class ocean engineering experimental platforms, unrivalled in France. The company was born at the heart of a vibrant industrial and innovation basin at the cutting edge of marine renewable energies.
With skills in aerodynamics, hydrodynamics, structures and manufacturing, the company is initially developing the Navire-Energie, a disruptive technology for capturing and converting wind energy on the high seas.
With the concept showing promise, FARWIND ENERGY was created in July 2020.
Rapidly expanding, and in line with its strategy of decarbonizing maritime transport, the company now designs and manufactures Flettner rotors, sail propulsion systems, for installation on its customers’ ships as well as on its own Energy Ships.
Our ambition today: to make the world’s most powerful rotor sails.
